The Clarinda School District Board of Directors, during a meeting Wednesday, Dec. 11, offered a two-year contract to current Interim Superintendent Chris Bergman, which she accepted.
The contract is scheduled to begin in July 2020, with a salary for the superintendent position set at $170,000 a year.
Board president Greg Jones said that after the contract has been reviewed by the district’s attorney, it would be formally signed by all parties involved and would become effective.
After the resignation last spring of former superintendent Deron Stender, Bergman accepted the interim superintendent’s job on June 25. At the time, she was waiting for her license from the state to be approved. The Clarinda district, in the meantime, hired Dr. Lou Howell of the Green Hills Area Education Agency to fill the vacancy, an action allowed by state law.
Once Bergman obtained her license, she replaced Dr. Howell and was hired by the Clarinda board on Aug. 23.
Before coming to Clarinda, Bergman was a central office administrator with the Johnston Community School District.
Prior to that position, Bergman was at the Waukee Community School District for three years. She served as middle school principal for two years, then was the executive director of the Center for Advanced Professional Studies.
