Kathy Behrends College Springs, Iowa Aug. 26, 1956-Nov. 6, 2019 Kathy Behrends, 63, of College Springs, Iowa entered into peace Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at Jennie Edmondson Hospital, Council Bluffs, Iowa. Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at a later date. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family on our website at, under Obituaries. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Clarinda, Iowa, where we 'Celebrate Life'. Kathryn Marie Whipp Behrends was born August 26, 1956 in Clarinda, Iowa to Charles Whipp and Patricia (Davison) Whipp. Kathy grew up in the College Springs area and attended South Page High School. She was united in marriage to Don Smiley and they were blessed with two children, Scott and Mandi. They were later divorced and Kathy and Dave Behrends were united in marriage. They lived in Euless, Texas for several years. Kathy worked for many years in Iowa and in Texas in customer service for several food service establishments. Kathy loved to visit with her family and friends. Family time was very important to her. Preceding Kathy in death were her parents, Charles and Pat Whipp; brother, Dan Whipp; husband, Dave Behrends; nephew, Luke Morrison; grandparents, Charles and Myrene Whipp and Lain and Pearl Davison. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Scott Smiley and wife Melanie of Fort Worth, Texas; daughter, Mandi Smiley-Cruz and husband Leyvi of College Springs, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Baylee, Sydney, Dylan, Samantha, Chase, Julie, Konner and Gavin; brother, Mike Whipp and wife Betsy of Lyons, Colorado; sister, Becky Morrison and husband Mike of College Springs, Iowa; nieces; nephews and many friends.
