Anna Carlson Clarinda, Iowa Feb. 16, 1926-Dec. 5, 2019 Anna Carlson, 93, of Clarinda, Iowa formerly of Ogden, Iowa entered into peace Thursday, December 5, 2019 at Goldenrod Manor, Clarinda, Iowa. Visitation with the family was held 2:00 p.m. 4:00 p.m. Sunday, December 8, 2019 at Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa. Interment will be held at the St. John Cemetery, Ogden, Iowa at a later date. Anna Mae Carlson was born February 16, 1926 in Ogden, Iowa to August Vaughan and Lillian (Christensen) Vaughan. She and her nine siblings grew up in the Ogden area. Anna graduated from Ogden High School with the class of 1943. She was united in marriage December 27, 1945 to Jay Edward Carlson in Ogden, Iowa (she joked saying that she got married to have indoor plumbing!). They were blessed with five children, Jana, David, Deborah, Katherine and Mark. Anna started her working career as a legal secretary before her marriage. In the 1960's, she started her own upholstery business at home in the laundry room, moving to a store front as her business grew. Her work was well known and she has had upholstered pieces displayed in the Terrace Hill Governor's mansion in Des Moines. Anna was a member of St. John Catholic Church, Ogden, Iowa and most recently St. Clare Catholic Church, Clarinda, Iowa. She was also a member of the BPW organization of Ogden and through the years, she was an actively supportive wife of a loyal politician of Boone County. Anna was very active and had many interests including all sewing (knitting, crocheting, cross stitch, embroidering and quilting), watching birds, puzzles and trips to Florida to visit her son. She was a die hard Chicago Cubs fan. Anna moved to Clarinda in 2008 to be near her family. Preceding Anna in death were her parents; husband, Jay Carlson; infant son, Mark; one brother; seven sisters; and four grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Jana Carlson-McAnally of Clarinda, Iowa, David (Lisa) Carlson of Sebastian, Florida, Debbie (Harlan) Lundquist of Ames, Iowa, and Katie (David) Lowrie of Clarinda, Iowa; twenty two grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; five great, great grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Clause of Jefferson, Iowa; FoS (the cat); nieces; nephews and many friends.
