Luetta (Lu) Marie Eilts Herzberg was born December 18, 1926 in Cumberland, Iowa, the daughter of William (Bill) Eilts and Lizzie (Kloppenberg) Eilts. She went to be with her Lord on June 13, 2020. Lu was baptized January 30, 1927, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wiota, Iowa by Pastor F.W. Heinke. She was confirmed in Trinity Lutheran Church in Creston on May 25, 1941 by Reverend Walter E. Wagner. Her confirmation Bible verse was Matthew 6:33 "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you". The family lived on farms in the St. Charles, Cumberland and Lorimor, Iowa areas until they moved to Vancouver, Washington where she graduated high school on June 1, 1944. The family moved to Oakland, California and Lu worked as a civilian for the US Naval Supply Depot in Oakland, California. While there, she was introduced to her future husband Clark and they were married July 16, 1946. A year later, a son, Loyd was born. Shortly after, they returned to farm near Coin, Iowa. Three years later a son, Raymond was born. Lu was an at-home house-wife after the birth of her sons. Lu and Clark were active throughout their sixty years of marriage. Upon Clark's retirement, they spent many winters in Arizona, Texas and Florida in their mobile trailer. Their travels included Canada and criss-crossing the country from Florida to Alaska. Preceding Lu in death were her husband, Clark Herzberg (12/21/2016); her parents, Bill and Lizzie Eilts; son, Raymond Herzberg; brother, Lloyd Eilts and sister-in-law, Anita Eilts. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Loyd Herzberg and Jackie Schmitt of Coin, Iowa; grandson, Jeffery Herzberg and Ronna Noah of Urbandale, Iowa and great granddaughters, Sierra and Hanna Herzberg. Lu was dearly loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed by her family, church family and friends. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Clarinda where for many years she was active in LWML, Bible study and youth LYF. Lu was a resident at the Eiler Place and most recently at Azria Health and was most appreciative of all of her care givers and fellow residents. May God grant comfort and strength to those who mourn her passing and her memory will live on in their hearts.
