Robert Lee New was born May 12, 1933, in Hopkins, Missouri the son of Frank New and Letha (Blake) New. He grew up attending school in Hopkins, graduating with the Class of 1950. Bob was united in marriage to E. Darlene Kight on November 17, 1951. To this union three children were born, Joy, Terry and Joni. The family lived in rural Page County where Bob worked for the Redfield Sullivan Furniture Company and J.R. Furniture. The family moved into Clarinda in 1969, and Bob went to work for Hygrade Meat Plant. In 1975, he went to work at NSK for 21 years, retiring in 1996. During his working years he also raised horses. Bob's passion was breaking horses to ride, and he always kept a pony around for the grandchildren to ride. Bob and Darlene enjoyed dancing together whenever possible. In fact, they danced in their living room every Sunday night to 'Satin Sheets'. In 1980, his wife Darlene passed away. Bob was a member of the Elks and the Masonic Lodge. Left to cherish Bob's memory are his three children, Joy McKinnon of Clarinda, Iowa; Terry New and wife Myra of Clarinda, Iowa; and Joni Andersen and husband Rod of Clarinda, Iowa; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Melba Dawson of Bedford, Iowa; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Preceding Bob in death are his parents, Frank and Letha New; his loving wife Darlene New; three sisters, Iola Millen, Viola Pullen and Dorothy Pullen; and one brother, Orville New. Bob's passion for horses and the love of his family will remain in their hearts forever. And as Bob would say . . . 'See You Later Alligator'.
