Arllie Newberg Buena Park, California May 12, 1932-October 6, 2019 Arllie Nevin Newberg was born May 12, 1932 at his parents, Frank and Minnie (Smith) Newberg's home south of College Springs, Iowa. He had 12 brothers and sisters. They are Paul, Albert, Carl, Kenneth (Ernie), Harvie, Sheldon, Mary Swim, Velma Patience, Agnes Smith, Maxine Greishaber, Frances Offenburger and Delores Fischer. The only one surviving is Delores Fischer of Shenandoah, Iowa. He is also survived by nieces and nephews and many cousins. Arllie attended all of his school days in the College Springs, Iowa School and graduated in 1950. He was inducted into the U.S. Army September, 1952, His service took him to Fort Leonard Wood, Mo, Camp Chaffee, Ark., Fort Bragg, NC and in January, 1953 he was sent to Baumholden, Germany for 1 year. He came back to Chicago IL and was discharged in September 1954. He returned to Page County, Iowa and was employed. His last occupation in Page County was a meat cutter for a Grocery Store in Shenandoah, Iowa. He decided to go to California and was a meat cutter for more than 5 years in the Riverside, CA area. Then he worked for ARA, a vending machine repairing company. He retired in 1992. He met the love of his life, Ruth Akers and was 'Papa Arllie' for 38 years to her six children, and families. They are Diana and Paul Gunterman, Donnie and Sondra Akers, Paul and Erma Akers, Phil Akers, Lonnie and June Akers and Lynette and Steve Graham, 19 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Arllie and Ruth loved to travel together, did square dancing, fishing trips, visited their families and other activitiesl He enjoyed cooking and gardening and could repair most everything. He will be missed by all. They have lived many years in Buena Park, California. His death came on October 6, 2019 at the Anaheim, California Medical Center. Funeral Celebration of Life Services were held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa. Visitation was held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at Ritchie Funeral Home prior to the service with the family greeting friends. Interment was held at the Maple Hill Cemetery in College Springs, Iowa with military honors. Memorials may be given in Arllie's name.
