Norma Thomsen Clarinda, Iowa October 19, 1942 - August 2, 2019 Norma was born and grew up in rural Thayer county Nebraska, near Byron, Nebraska. She was the third of four children to Otto and Louise (Hoefer) Kuhlmann. Norma attended Fairbury Junior College and the University of Nebraska Lincoln received her degree in Art Education. She taught in Sidney, IA for several years before moving to Clarinda. Most of her professional career was spent managing the bank at 301 E. Washington in Clarinda. It was First Federal Savings and Loan when she started and is currently Great Western bank, but had approximately 47 other names in between. Activities, hobbies, groups, interests, affiliations, and other pastimes - at one time or another, and in no particular order - plants and flowers, pottery, tennis, crossword puzzles, square dancing, singing in various choirs, serving on the church alter guild, community theatre, bicycling, walking, renaissance festivals, weaving, basketry, Monet, Van Gogh, musicals, skydiving (seriously), PEO, volunteer voting official, Bethesda Recorder Consort, Kiwanis, Glenn Miller Birthplace Society and Festival, Grandmothering, and being mom to two of the luckiest boys around. Norma is preceded in death by her parents Otto and Louise Kuhlmann, sister Lois Meyer, and son Evan Grant Thomsen. She is survived by brother Orvin Kuhlmann, sister Helen DeLellis, son Marty and his wife Lisa, and their boys, William and Griffin, and son Matthew and his wife Danielle, and their children Fletcher and Willa. The Memorial service will be Saturday, September 7th, at 11:00 AM at Bethesda Lutheran church.
