Clarinda saw its drive for a state tournament berth come to an end Monday, May 20, at the Class 2A Region 1 Final played at Willow Vale Golf Course in Mapleton.
The top two teams from the tournament earned spots in the Class 2A State Golf Tournament to be played Tuesday and Wednesday, May 28-29, at Ames Golf and Country Club in Ames. Unity Christian won the team title with a score of 375, while Missouri Valley finished as the runner-up with a score of 411. The Cardinals finished fifth in the standings with a team score of 454.
In the indiviudal portion of the regional tournament, Gracie Brown was bidding for a return to the state tournament. However, she missed qualifying by five strokes. Brown finished ninth overall in the 18-hole event with a round of 101. The top six golfers from the regional tournament qualified for the state tournament.
Ashley McCoy and Kayla Jones each contributed rounds of 111 on the day for Clarinda. Ava Sharr rounded out the team scoring for Clarinda with a round of 125.
Jalyn Sharr mader her way around the course in 130 strokes. Saige Brown cardedd a 133 for Clarinda.
