Clarinda freshman Mayson Hartley enjoyed a highly successful start to her high school cross country career as she finished third overall Tuesday, Aug. 27, in the Shenandoah Early Bird meet.

Hartley completed the course in a time of 21:02.14. Peyton Pogge of Tri-Center bested the field of 73 runners with a time of 19:15.86, while Ryann Portch of AHSTW was second in 20:19.56.

Returning state qualifier Ashlyn Eberly kicked off her sophomore season for the Cardinals with a 15th place finish. She was clocked at 24:00.07 in the race.

Keely Boltinghouse added a 21st place finish for Clarinda as she posted a time of 25:26.42. Molly Lihs was right behind in 24th place with a time of 25:52.17.

Hannah Milleson crossed the finish line in 27:40.77 to place 41st in the field. Isabelle Smith and Madison Sunderman finished 45th and 46th with times of 28:10.18 and 28:14.75 respectively.

Tatiana Schaapherder delivered a time of 30:24.06 to finish 55th overall. Skyler Ned rounded out the Clarinda lineup with a 68th place finish in 32:19.91.

Clarinda also competed in the boys’ division of the Shenandoah meet Tuesday. The boys’ field included 87 runners.

Jon McCall turned in a strong showing for the Cardinals as he finished fifth in a time of 18:08.36. Luke Baker added an eighth place finish in 18:52.27.

Michael Mayer completed the course in 19:28.25 to rank 13th overall. Jordan Fasnacht was clocked a 20:48.50 as he finished 31st in the race.

Alec Wyman placed 34th for the Cardinals with a time of 20:57.08. Brayden Hayes followed in 38th place with a time of 21:11.09.

Ronnie Weidman and Nathan King finished 49th and 50th respectively in the race. Weidman turned in a time of 22:13.80 and King was clocked at 22:38.00.

No team scores were kept in either the boys’ or girls’ divisions of the meet.

Clarinda was also in action Saturday, Aug. 31, at the 45th Glenwood Coed Cross Country Meet. The Cardinals finished eighth in the girls’ division with 188 points, while the boys’ team scored 184 points to rank ninth as a team.

Hartley followed up her performance at Shenandoah with another third place finish. She posted a time of 19:41.15.

Eberly added a 28th place finish with a time of 22:29.81. Lihs added a 54th place finish as she was clocked at 24:20.50.

Boltinghouse completed the course in 24:30.84 to rank 59th in the field. Milleson followed in 85th place with a time of 26:29.28.

Smith turned in a time of 26:42.876 to place 92nd for the Cardinals. Schaapherder ranked 106th in 27:36.46. Sunderman rounded out the lineup with a 110th place finish in 28:19.90.

In the boys’ race, the Cardinals had three runners finish within 16 seconds of each other. McCall was the first of the trio to cross the finish line as he placed 21st with a time of 17:51. 69. Mark Everett finished 22nd in 18:05.02, while Baker placed 23rd with a time of 18:07.90.

Mayer collected a 49th place finish in 19:17.37. Wyman was clocked at 20:15.81 as he finished 75th in the race. Fasnacht and Weidman placed 78th and 79th respectively with times of 20:20.81 and 20:21.56.

Hayes contributed a 107th place finish in a time of 21:04.50. King completed the course in 21:47.93 to place 123rd overall.
